According to what i gathered from High Street Mail, Makola No. 2 Market, also known as the Aflao station at Tudu near the State Transport Yard was razed down by fire at dawn on
Friday.

The fire, which started around 0430 hours, has destroyed goods worth thousands of cedis but the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Brigadier General John Bosco Emawin Guyiri, Acting Chief Fire Officer, told journalists that the Fire Service received the information around 0515 hours that there was fire outbreak at the STC Yard.

He said 35 fire men were sent to the place but they were unable to put off the fire early due to lack of water.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer said they have been told by the Ghana Water Company Limited that there would be no water on Friday so the fire men had to go to 37 Military Hospital area and its environs for water to put off the fire which made the work difficult.

He said even though the cause of the fire was yet to be determined, they found exploded cylinders at the place which could be attributed to the cause.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, said police were deployed to the place to help the fire men work without any disturbances from people around.

He said investigators are on the ground looking into the cause of the fire.

The Accra Regional Police Command on March 25 detained a woman on suspicion of attempting to burn down some stores at the Makola market.

She was seen by security persons at the market sprinkling what looked like kerosene on some stores at 0200 hours and was immediately apprehended.

The security men later handed her over to the police on suspicion that whe was mentally unstable and has been referred to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for examination.
