ON THE DEATH OF THE NIGERIAN STUDENT IN CAPE COAST, P.R.O ALL NIGERIAN COMMUNITY, GHANA

It is with pain and sorrow that we heard the death of a Nigerian, Godwin Ayogu,a 300 level social science student of University of Cape coast whose lifeless body was discovered over the weekend near Round Palace Hotel,Cape Coast. As the Nigerian Community representatives here in Ghana, we find it very important to identify and nip in the bud this particular incident .Nigerians are known to be adventurous hence the desire for
some of us to extend our search for education to the shores of Ghana.

This news came as a rude shock to us as its clear we have lost another star in the making to an unknown cause. We feel pained because this is the third time within four months that we are recording the death of a Nigerian student in Ghana to unusual circumstances, just recently we heard about the death of a Ani Constantine" a geology student of Radford University and uptill today, we have not seen or heard of any exclusive report concerning that incident.

As much as we are yet to fully understand the cause of this death, we want to urge the Ghana Police whom we hold in high esteem for its series of achievements in identifying causes of such traumatic events to quickly move into action and help in finding out those who committed this grave atrocity. We cannot fold our hands any longer and see our children, brothers and sisters die in such wicked manner, it is time people are arrested, it is time the findings of investigation into these acts be made known to the public. We hold the Ghana Police service in high esteem and we believe something has to be done to unravel the circumstance of this gruesome murder and those behind it punished no matter who they are.

Furthermore, we want to also urge the Nigerians resident in Ghana to be careful in the Associations we make, we have to limit our night activities, we must ensure that at all times we report any suspicious movement to the relevant authorities. It is time to be very vigilant, for those students among us, be totally aware of why you are here. Studying is the primary aim and you must achieve results as your parents at home expect that from you.

Finally, we commend the Nigerian High Commission for its effort since this matter came up and we also urge everyone affected in anyway with Godwin’s death to take it calm as we would certainly work with all the relevant authorities to ensure justice is done as we know justice cannot be denied this time.

Thank you.
