In Ghana, Police Nab 10 People For Ticket Racketeering
Ghana Graphic Report:
The police in Kumasi have arrested 10 youths for selling tickets meant for the Black Stars vs the Pharaohs of Egypt World Cup play-off match scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium Tuesday afternoon at exorbitant prices.
The ten, all males, were caught with tickets in
various quantities and denominations in the vicinity of the stadium selling the tickets at prices far in excess of the approved fees.
Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Mohammed Tanko told Graphic Online that the culprits had hoarded the tickets to create artificial shortages and thereby sell at cut-throat prices for desperate football fans.
“The tickets involved so far are not fake. But we arrested one with a full booklet trying to sell while another had sold half of his booklet. We have sent them to the Central Police Station and our investigations continue.”
He cautioned the public against such criminal acts, adding that “there are a lot of such people out there with tickets to dupe others and we are on the lookout for them.
Meanwhile winding queues are building up at the gates with fans desperately looking for tickets to watch the 4pm game.
Some claimed to have queued since dawn but were unsure if they would get the tickets to watch the match.
