Ghana: Helicopter Carrying Gold Crashes In Eastern Region on it's Way To Accra
A cargo helicopter transporting gold from the Obuasi Mines to Accra has crashed in a forest near Esuofoa in the Akyem Oda district of the Eastern region.
Three persons on board the aircraft, including the pilot Flt Lieutenant Oppong (rtd), reportedly escaped death but suffered some minor injuries.
It is unclear who owns the helicopter and the gold, but the district fire station officer at Akyem Oda, Ismail Mohammed, who confirmed the news to Starr News said National Security officials arrived from Accra to carry the three individuals and the cargo on board the damaged helicopter to safety.
“The helicopter crashed in a thick forest and it was even difficult for us fire officers to travel to the destination. But the people are safe. And before we got there National security officers came to pick them and the gold and everything else on board the helicopter,” the officer stated.
